The 2022 Clio Cup season-finale lived up to all its expectations. At the end of an intense battle, Nicolas Milan (Milan Compétition) won ahead of Anthony Jurado (Milan Compétition) and David Pouget (GPA Racing) to claim the Clio Cup Series super-winner honorific title. Meanwhile, Gabriele Torelli (Faro Racing), Cristian Ricciarini (Essecorse) and Alex Royo (Team VRT) won the last remaining titles and B.R.M. Chronographes prizes in Clio Cup Italia and Clio Cup Spain.

Although the Clio Cup Europe titles were decided the day before, several places of honour in Clio Cup Italia and Clio Cup Spain were still at stake in the final race of the campaign. David Pouget proved it quickly by claiming pole position ahead of Nicolas Milan and Gabriele Torelli while Marc Guillot and Felice Jelmini (PMA Motorsport) completed the top five in the last qualifying session of 2022.

Like on Saturday, David Pouget held onto the lead but was soon under pressure from Nicolas Milan and Marc Guillot. Meanwhile, Anthony Jurado moved up from seventh to fifth position, followed by Alexandre Finkelstein (GPA Racing) and Luca Franca (MC Motortecnica) after a hard-fought first lap that ended the race of Alejandro Schimpf (Cotauto Motorsport).

Anthony Jurado, who won the Clio Cup Europe on Saturday, passed Gabriele Torelli on lap two before chasing down the leading trio. The Frenchman was helped in his mission by the increasingly intense duel between David Pouget and Nicolas Milan. The latter went on the offensive on lap five, taking the lead after a brilliant battle in which the two drivers drove side by side for several turns. Marc Guillot and Anthony Jurado also had a go and got in between their countrymen.

Nicolas Milan then quickly escaped, thanks to contact between Anthony Jurado and Marc Guillot at the beginning of lap seven, but a safety car period came three laps later, after the collision between Lydia Sempere (Team VRT) and Sandro Cutini (PMA Motorsport).

The race resumed for a two-lap final sprint. Nicolas Milan kept the advantage by using all his experience to keep Anthony Jurado at bay. The Frenchman won the race, thus concluding his season with the honorary title of Clio Cup Series super-winner over the 28-race calendar. Clio Cup Europe title-winner Anthony Jurado finished second ahead of David Pouget.

After his incident, Marc Guillot battled back to claim fourth place ahead of Felice Jelmini and Challenger Adrian Schimpf (Cotauto Motorsport). Following penalties for Alexandre Finkelstein for track limits and Gabriele Torelli for a false start, Luca Franca, Nikola Miljkovic (Tempo Racing Team), Juuso Panttila (Chefo Sport) and Mathieu Lannepoudenx (Milan Competition) completed the top ten while Javier Cicuendez (Team VRT) sealed his home double among the Gentlemen Drivers.

Of the 109 competitors who competed in 14 rounds across the continent, Czech driver Tomas Pekar received the B.R.M. Award, which recognises the driver who best embodies the values and spirit of the Clio Cup during the season. The series will return for a new edition in 2023, the calendar for which will be confirmed soon.

CLIO CUP EUROPE

Clio Cup Europe winner Nicolas Milan secured second place in the general classification to Anthony Jurado by winning ahead of his teammate and David Pouget, third in the season-ending general classification. In the Challengers Cup, Nicola Miljkovic impressed by winning despite the pressure of Juuso Panttila and Mathieu Lannepoudenx. With the victory, the Serbian secured second place in the category. Lastly, Luciano Gioia (Essecorse) scored his first victory of the year on the European scene, beating Rene Steenmetz (Chefo Sport) and Horn (GPA Racing).

CLIO CUP SPAIN

Although the final was dominated by Challenger Adrian Schimpf, who took the lead at the start, all eyes were on the contenders for the title. Among them, Nico Abella (Chefo Sport) finished second, but this was not enough to deprive Alex Royo of his second Spanish crown to join the one he won in 2017. Nico Abella had to be satisfied with his Challengers Cup title. Meanwhile, Javier Cicuendez doubled up in the Gentlemen Drivers Cup ahead of Fabien Julia (LR Performance), who had already secured the title, and Joaquin Rodrigo (Vearsa Sport).

CLIO CUP ITALIA

Although Felice Jelmini won the final duel in his season-long battle with Gabriele Torelli, the latter had already done the heavy lifting and secured his first Clio Cup Italia title despite finishing in fifth place. Felice Jelmini’s victory sealed the team’s title for PMA Motorsport. In the Challengers Cup, Jacopo Cimenes (Essecorse) won in front of Giacomo Trebbi (MC Motortecnica) and Cristian Ricciarini (Essecorse), who secured the title in the final race of the year. Lastly, Luciano Gioia (Essecorse) won his second consecutive Gentlemen Drivers Cup, beating Daniele Pasquali (Tuder Motorsport) and Quinto Stefana (Milan Competition).
