With the growing popularity of motorsport in the Arabian Peninsula, the Viry-Châtillon and Dieppe customer racing departments are preparing to launch the Clio Cup Middle East in partnership with GPX Events in the second half of 2022.

Since the R8 Gordini Cup launch, Renault has maintained a continuous presence on the world’s racetracks for fifty-six years. Since its introduction in 1991, several thousand Clio Cups have been sold, and the fifth generation is now enjoying increasing success worldwide.

Renowned for its performance, reliability and affordability, Clio Cup brings together all the savoir-faire and experience of Renault and Alpine Racing in one-make racing to offer professional and amateur drivers a modern product adapted to their needs.

Thirty years after its debut, Clio Cup continues its development beyond its traditional markets. After a first successful experience last winter in the NGK UAE ProCar Championship, the Viry-Châtillon and Dieppe customer racing departments have entrusted GPX Events with the promotion and organisation of the new Clio Cup Middle East. The new Clio Cup Middle East will follow the format of its sister series in Europe to provide the perfect addition to the existing categories, serving as a springboard between karting and single-seater, GT or endurance racing.

GPX Events is owned by GP Extreme, whose reputation has been built on the success of its GPX Racing and GPX Historic divisions in many disciplines. The Dubai-based company successfully organised the Historic Dubai Grand Prix Revival at the Dubai Autodrome in December.

The Clio Cup Middle East will feature six two-race events beginning in autumn, with the calendar to be announced shortly.

Benoit Nogier, Alpine Racing Commercial Racing Director : « "We are truly delighted to launch a new series for the Clio Cup in collaboration with our valued partners at GP Extreme. The GPX Events teams have been working tirelessly for several months to bring this project to fruition and have consistently demonstrated the quality and seriousness of their efforts in organising sporting events. We have every confidence in their ability to make the Clio Cup Middle East an essential component of the region’s automotive landscape. We are sure that the package we are putting together will appeal to many competitors, both local and European, in addition to newcomers and experienced drivers !"

Pierre-Brice Mena, GP Extreme General Manager : "The creation of the Clio Cup Middle East, which will align its format with its European counterparts, has been near and dear to us for a long time. We believe in the Clio Cup Middle East as it allows the widest possible access to motorsport, which has always been part of GP Extreme’s DNA. Our mission is to develop a series that will interest young drivers and enlightened amateurs, locals and Europeans who would like to race during the winter period to prepare for their next season. Furthermore, we are pleased to affirm our close relationship with the Renault Group, which dates back to when we fielded R.S.01s in competition. We have also been partners in the Formula Renault Eurocup and have been importing the Clio Cup since 2021. Consequently, we have already sold several cars and aim to have between 15 and 20 cars on the grid in the first season before aiming higher afterwards. After demonstrating our quality standards at the Historic Grand Prix Revival by Gulf Historic, it is clear that we have the determination to do things properly !"
