After the successful debut for New Clio Cup at Nogaro, the Clio Cup France community headed to Burgundy for round two of the season. David Pouget (GPA Racing) led the way in private testing before Corentin Tierce got the upper hand in the final practice session.

RACE 1 : TIERCE ENDS MILAN’S STREAK

The 2018 Junior Champion, Corentin Tierce kept the momentum going on Saturday with the pole position against Nicolas Milan, Thibaut Bossy, David Pouget and Mathieu Lannepoudenx (Milan Competition).

In spite of the excellent start of Thibaut Bossy, the poleman held on to the lead whereas Anthony Jurado gained two positions to move up to fifth place. The early going of the race was extremely intense in the lead group and Nicolas Milan took the lead at the Adélaïde corner on lap four.

While coping with the attacks of Thibaut Bossy, Corentin Tierce wisely used the tow to maintain the pressure on Nicolas Milan. The two then began to extend their advantage following the spectacular but unsuccessful attempt by Thibault Bossy.

Three laps from the chequered flag, Corentin Tierce finally found an opening to retake the lead before an unsuccessful attempt to retake the lead from his team boss. Corentin Tierce held on for his first success with New Clio Cup.

The battle for third place was epic between Thibaut Bossy, David Pouget and Anthony Jurado. Following his strong start, Anthony Jurado moved around David Pouget on lap seven before surprising Thibault Bossy three laps later. The native of Montpellier thought he had done enough, but that was before the last-ditch attack from Thibaut Bossy who got past him in the second to last corner to claim the third step on the podium !

Mathieu Lannepoudenx finished sixth ahead of Kevin Jimenez (GPA Racing), who overtook Dorian Guldenfels (TB2S) on the last lap after a race-long duel with Alexandre Albouy (GPA Racing). Ninth place Romain Boeckler (BRS Racing Team) won the Junior category ahead of Doriane Pin (GPA Racing) while Mickael Carrée (T2CM) beat Guillaume Savoldelli (TB2S) to take top honours among the Gentlemen.

Qualifying 1 - Race 1

RACE 2 : ONE-TWO-THREE FOR MILAN COMPETITION

Also held on Saturday, the second qualifying session saw Nicolas Milan win his first pole with New Clio Cup ahead of Anthony Jurado, David Pouget, Corentin Tierce and Kevin Jimenez.

While Nicolas Milan initially held on to his advantage, Anthony Jurado used a late braking move at the Adélaïde hairpin to take the lead. In a five-car lead group that quickly pulled away from the rest of the field, Nicolas Milan retook the lead on lap three before making the most of a hard-fought duel between Anthony Jurado and Corentin Tierce and the retirement of Thibault Bossy to widen the gap.

The running order, however, soon changed. After definitively getting the better of Anthony Jurado, Corentin Tierce reeled in the race leader before taking the lead on lap eight. Like the previous day, Corentin Tierce then tried to pull away, but to no success. Notwithstanding all his experience, Nicolas Milan couldn’t find an opening despite several attempts in the final laps of the race.

Corentin Tierce took his second victory in as many days while Nicolas Milan and Anthony Jurado made it a Milan Compétition sweep of the podium.

After a difficult start that dropped him to seventh place, David Pouget made an impressive comeback to finish fourth ahead of Dorian Guldenfels, who made his way past Kevin Jimenez just a few corners before the chequered flag. Seventh place Romain Boeckler was once again the best among the Juniors, finishing ahead of Mathieu Lannepoudenx, Alexandre Albouy and Doriane Pin. In the Gentlemen category Guillaume Savoldelli got his revenge from the day before thanks to his overtake of Mickael Carrée four laps from the finish.

Qualifying 2 - Race 2

In the general classification, Nicolas Milan extends his lead over David Pouget while Corentin Tierce moves up to third after his brace of wins at Magny-Cours. Still unbeaten in the Junior category, Romain Boeckler has also created some day light, while Mickael Carrée moves into the lead of a Gentlemen’s category more competitive than ever.

The Clio Cup France next heads to Circuit Paul Ricard (October 2-4) for the third of its five rounds this year.
