With eight drivers still in contention going into the final meeting, the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 confirms its position as one of the most competitive categories. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile recognizes the qualities of the discipline by attributing 10 points to the laureates of the various European series’. So that budding champions can run dual programmes and accumulate up to half the needed points for a Super License, Renault Sport has worked with the promotors of the ALPS and NEC to avoid date conflicts.

400 000 € of prize money for the best

At the conclusion of the 2016 season, the top three in the general classification will be awarded 150,000€, 100,000€ and 50,000€ to help them to move up to the next level. The top rookie (a driver having competed in less than three meetings in Formula Renault 2.0 before January 1st), will also receive 100,000€ of assistance if he or she wishes to compete in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 in 2017.

Technical and sporting stability

If a decision concerning the introduction of 17’’ Michelin tyres for 2016 will be made in a few weeks, there will be stability up until 2018. A new engine will be introduced in 2018, which should coincide with the arrival of a new generation Formula Renault 2.0.

The weekend format will still offer significant track time with two 50-minute collective tests, two 15-minute group qualifications and 25-minute plus one lap races.

The list of pre-selected teams will be announced on December 15. Each structure will be able to enter two to four cars, plus wild-cards accorded to drivers on a maximum of three-dates, except Monaco, for the year.

This breathing of new life into the discipline wants to attract the most ambitious talent from karting or F4. These drivers will toughen up on Europe’s finest circuits, develop in a series known by all and battle for the top cash prizes existing at this level. And with a technical stability confirmed until 2018, the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0’s future promises to be bright !”
