Get ready for Goodwood

This July sees the 26th edition of the famed Goodwood Festival of Speed, and as ‘the world’s greatest celebration of motorsports’ enters its second quarter of a century, Renault Sport’s presence at this fabulous event is set to be bigger and better than ever.

Held in beautiful parkland surrounding Goodwood House in Chichester, England, motorsports’ ultimate summer garden party is like nowhere else when it comes to getting close to both new and classic cars as they take on the famed Hillclimb track, while access to the machines and the drivers that made them famous is almost unrestricted.

Renault Sport’s presence at the four-day festival will cover three main areas : Racing, Cars and Classics, while one of the major highlights is the chance to see the all-new New Mégane R.S. Trophy-R before it goes on limited-edition sale later this year.

This hottest of hatches smashed the track record in the front-wheel drive production car category at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife in May and has since set the world of motoring alight. Using the same highly tuned engine as its stablemate, the Mégane R.S. 300 Trophy, but weighing 130kg less, the R.S. Trophy-R was built to break records and visiting fans will see why pre-order demand is so high as it lights up the track.

Alongside this stunning new addition to the Renault Sports family, Goodwood visitors will also be able to admire a selection of other R.S. supercars that both span the years and emphasise the company’s strong motorsports expertise and credentials.

These include the 1956 Tank Riffard, the RS10 F1™ car celebrating the 40 years of Renault’s first victory at the 1979 French Grand Prix, the 1986 R5 Turbo Superproduction, the 1988 R21 2.0 Turbo Superproduction and the 2012 E20 V8 F1™ car. All cars will be running at Goodwood twice a day over the duration of the festival.

This incredible collection of Renault Sports cars will be complemented by an equally amazing line-up of driving talent from the R.S. stable. From the 2019 Renault F1™ Team, Daniel Ricciardo, who currently lies ninth in the table and has 29 podiums and seven wins in his short career, will be making an appearance, as will Renault Sport development driver Laurent Hurgon who was behind the wheel of the Mégane R.S. Trophy-R earlier this year when it broke Nordschleife lap record.

Old and new R.S. fans will also be able to enjoy the presence of some of the heroic drivers responsible for helping create the company’s rich motor racing heritage and legacy.

These will include five times 24 Hours of Le Mans participant Alain Serpaggi who took the European 2-Liter Championship in 1974, and René Arnoux who finished third at the 1979 French Grand Prix when Jean-Pierre Jabouille recorded Renault’s first victory. Arnoux’s thrilling wheel-banging battle for second place with Gilles Villeneuve in the Flat-12 Ferrari remains legendary in F1™ history.

Renault Sport’s presence aside, visitors will be able to enjoy a host of other entertainment at the festival including flying displays from the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team – the thrilling Red Arrows – and displays of motor bikes, and cars from the world of Nascar. Glimpses of what the future of motoring may look like can be had in the FOS Future Lab & First Glance Paddock, while the new-for-2019 Arena area will be dedicated to those cars that travel best sideways, four-wheeled drift cars.

Tickets for the event are still available with various packages available from simple entrance to the grounds to backstage hospitality options. Visitors can also make it a real family day out, by taking advantage of the fact that under-13s have free entry. What a way to fulfill the need for speed.
